“Transylvania was the ancient name for a region that lies in the very heart of Europe. A strange and mysterious country, rich in folklore and tales of darkness and superstition. A country of soaring mountains and fertile valleys that borders the lands that men know as Russia and the mighty forests that once edged the realm of Hungary. Since the ancient Dacian empire had fallen into decline, Transylvania had been invaded and fought over by the seemingly infinite variety of peoples and cultures. The Romans had come here, and after them the succeeding tides of nomadic conflict. The land beyond the forest was still bitterly disputed by the Magyars from Hungary, by the Saxons from the German lands, and by the Vlachs, who owed their allegiance to none.”
The Sight, David Clement-Davies; p. 6
In the land of Transylvania during the 1400s the land was not yet ruled by the great and terrible Man, for the animals had reign of the forests. One such creature that stood above the rest as the mightiest of all predators was the wolf. With its cunning eyes and keen senses, Man both revered and feared the creature that stalked the night and day. They built temples to it, they hunted it for its pelt, and in the distant future they would still try to blame it as a creature of nightmares. But only wolves know the truth of what they really are. So prowl into the land beyond the forest, a world full of mysteries and wonder, and live your life away from the threat of today’s world, step into the past when the wild was truly wild.
The Lamenting Forest is a wolf role-play site that uses the language and wolf lore from David Clement-Davies’ popular book The Sight, and its sequel, Fell. Here you can create your own wolf and make your own way through various site plots or wars, and maybe even come face to face with the terrible hell-lord Wolfbane. Join a pack and let your wolf walk through the rich lands of Transylvania and explore a world where the limit to adventure is only as far as you dare to travel…
