[bgcolor=gray]Sitting at borders edge, eyes slits, moving shiftily over the far off border, as if watching for movement. Preposterous! How could this be, when this Clan cat was blind. Why he was even noticeable, a never worthy DreadClan cat for he was white! DreadClan was not supposed to be bright colours but dark, shadowy and mysterious. But still this bulky tom-cat was excepted. No, he was excepted, he was worshiped. For this Clan cat, was in fact, the leader of DreadClan. And how, do you ask, was such a cat destined to become a Leader with such flaws to the ever shadowy and strong DreadClan. Well maybe Frostmoon had spent his whole life training harder, trying to be better, and in such superseding his Clanmates. So, what do you think of Frostmoon now?
Stalking through the dense shrub, invasive spurge, dark pines, each white paw touched the ground as lightly as it ever could. Soon a waft of prey-scent leaked into Frostmoons mouth, and he smiled. Not frog, or toad, but the rare treat of WrathClan mouse, and on his territory non the less. Smiling sadistically, he moved oh so slowly, and with practice he pounced, paw smashing the mouse to the ground. He picked it up, holding it before his face as if looking at the half dead body. Then with swift mercy he dispatched of the preys life, giving quick thanks, before eating the mouse.
Licking his maw, Frostmoon stood, making his way toward the border once more, making sure WrathClan was not tempted to cross over the border. Apparently they were not good enough to mark borders at night, unlike DreadClan. No, DreadClan lived for the night. That was reason why they lived in such shadowy territory and were more nocturnal then the other Clans. But, he dismissed the thought, looking at the empty sky, moon new for now. He knew soon the Medicine cats would be traveling soon to the Nightstone. He himself hadn't been there recently, but he had special connections with MoonClan non-the-less.
So with disgust he turned to head for the opposite border, glancing at the sky to see stars glowing faintly. Who did StarClan think they were, trying to better the power of the moon? He thought it was false bravery, for when he joined the Ranks of MoonClan he would be the one to lead his dead clanmates to spread fear into StarClan. Yet again these thoughts were lost when he came by the Night Elm, a sacred tree were warriors and apprentices got to visit with MoonClan, the only two times formally in there lives, less they became leader or Medicine cats. But not all were destined for that.
He just continued past the shadowy gray tree to the PerishClan border. It was marked a little more well, but still faint. He preceded to leave his own markings, before sitting to stare at the open ground, with few trees and undergrowth. How did they live without such protection? It was obscene. But then again they were smart enough to live with marsh, unlike Pensive- and WrathClan who preferred the dryer ground. That must be hard on paw-pads, but what did he know, for he did not live in those territories, nor did he want to. Too much dry or openness for him, so no thanks!
Still he wished for some form of life to be close to him. Twilight patrol alone was proving horrid. He would even welcome a cat from a rival clan, though not kindly. He had to keep his and his Clans reputation up as cold and unforgiving. But still, a little border skirmish wouldn't hurt. After all he did have all nine lives, and he was the most experienced leader, so what did he have to worry about? [648]

The leaves rustled as a shecat appeared. Her pelt the color of soft maple under the shimmering moon. She raised her head to the moon and silently prayed for a good hunt. She knew if she had a good hunt her mentor wouldn't be half as mad at her. She knew she was late. It was twilight and she hadn't followed her mentor on the hunting patrol. The shecat had slept through it. And as usual no apprentices woke her. As usual.
She padded forward, flicking her ears for any sound of prey. Nothing. But of course, lots of things were silent. She opened her jaws to scent something. Anything. She padded forward again. Snap! She lowered her body to the ground, her pale belly fur sweeping the cool earth. She kept her paws in close to her chest, and moved slowly. Her tail was low, barely sweeping the floor.
Fallpaw saw the mouse scuttling under a leaf. She nearly leaped on it, overjoyed at the fact of mouse in front of her, but then she noticed something not right. She leaped to her paws. She turned and sure enough she had crossed the border by a tail length. She quickly ran back and gave a sigh of relief. I sure hope Frostmoon didn't hear that.[/i She gave her chest quick licks to hide her embarrassment. She shouldn't make mistakes! She was an apprentice to the leader.
Fallpaw padded away, in search of another source of prey. But the only thing she saw was a big white tom. Frostmoon!

[bgcolor=gray] Blue eyes glittered, tail sweeping over rotting growth. Frostmoon lifted his nose, scenting carefully. Pads tingling with oh so soft vibrations, the ones you had to pay attention to to feel. Good, Fallpaw was learning something. It was about time too! But he wasn't giving his apprentice enough credit. She was after all a very good apprentice, the best in the den he thought. But that was him being stereo typical. Frostmoon just continued to concentrate on the moves of the young she-cat stalking a mouse on the far wrong side of the border. He could feel her pull back right as she landed, and nodded absently to himself. She was learning, and would respect the borders for now on after the scolding he would give her. But for now he was in a good enough mood, which was rare, so why not share it with his apprentice? Much better a choice then Blueleaf.
Frostmoon never did like the she-cat that was determined to stay his mate, even if he didn't love her. But he held that in the back of his mind, flicking his tail for Fallpaw to stand by him. "Very good, my young apprentice. Your paws were so light I would not have known it was you if not for the wind," He half praised. He didn't want to be too kind. No that was not him. Still he gave the slightest hint of a smile, but next came the light scolding, smile turning to angered frown. "Still you crossed the border, which must be honored unless MoonClan bids battle. Now you don't want your ancestors to be angered with you, now do you?" he half hissed, eyes flashing cold for a second or two. Still his anger didn't hold.
He was too busy thinking of Flamepool for some reason. He didn't know who the she-cat was, or were he heard the name, but he was sure MoonClan had sent him the name for a reason. Maybe a mate to come? Maybe... He wasn't sure. He only sighed, feeling the breeze blow the cool lake water on his white fur. It was refreshing compared to the daytime heat. He despised the heat. What a nuisance! It made his pelt itchy, and MoonClan could not truly watch them if the sun is in the way. No, the Clans were meant for night! But maybe that was just him. Other cats seemed to like to sun, and of course medicine cats needed to dry herbs, which was important.
Frostmoon realized he was letting silence go between them. He looked down to his apprentice. He knew he would be proud of her. He layed his tail on her shoulders. "I'm sure you know about borders though. Just don't let it happen again," he said a little sternly. "But I'm impressed you didn't get caught. So I'll let it go, for now," he said. eyes flicking kindness. Nothing really brought out his kindness than kits and impressive apprentices. It made him glow with pride that his Clan was growing stronger, and more powerful. [536]

Fallpaw's eyes widened and pride radiated through her whole body. He was impressed with me! She flicked her tail and glanced up at moonclan, silently thanking them for this honor. Because this was her greatest pleasure in life, making her ancestors and leader happy. But then, as she was glancing up stars caught her eye. They were so bright tonight. She turned to her leader. "Frostmoon? What are the stars? I mean, why are they so small yet seem so bright, like they could, if twinkling together, get rid of the moons light? Doesn't it seem that way to you?" She sighed. "Sometimes...well, just last night i had a very weird dream. A cat came to me in my dream. But I don't think it was Moonclan. Their pelts didn't shine like the moon, they sparkled like stars wer within them. I dunno. It was weird." She sighed once more before getting to her paws. "I'm gonna go catch you a plump vole!" She teased, knowing she would never find such a rare treasure in her territory.

[bgcolor=gray] The sky slowly shifted, the Twilight patrol now slowly coming to a close. It didn't mean they had to leave yet. Frostmoon could still feel the pride glowing off of his apprentice. He was going to offer a better hunt, when Fallpaw started asking about the stars. He sighed to himself. Any apprentice was bound to ask of the stars, and eventually learn of the MoonClan forsaken Clan. But he had to tell now, but again was stopped. What was this Fallpaw was saying, a dream? He listened intently... such an odd dream, and one to ask about. But for now he would keep it secret, watching his apprentice bounce off to hunt. "Bring me back a snake, instead," he called over his shoulder, before looking to the star-lit sky. Was StarClan getting overly confident, or just a dream of starry figures? He could never tell.
Still, Frostmoon was wafted by the idea. Fallpaw thought the Stars could overpower the moon. Hah, it made him laugh. But the starry figures in his dream, what could this be? He did not know, he would have to share tongues with MoonClan to decide, but for now it could be nothing more than a repeat of a long forgotten nursery story to scare the kits. So with confidence it was nothing, the frost tom stood and headed for camp, listening for his apprentices hunting. He could smell her up wind, but her sound was faint, and vibrations none. Good, an apprentice to be proud of.
Once back to camp he dismissed the cat keeping guard and sat at the entrance. What was the point of sleeping if he seemed restless now? He did not know, so he might as well guard his Clan, and wait for his apprentice. While Frostmoon waited, a bundle of white downy fur tumbled through the briar entrance, followed by a sneeze. He looked down at the kit, as if he could see him. "Whitekit, it is past your bedtime, go back to the nursery. Besides you are too young to be out of camp," his father said sternly. Whitekit just did a small fake roar, before pouncing on Frostmoon's tail.
"But father, I want to be a great warrior like you! I must start now!" he growled as best a kit could. Frostmoon only chuckled, swiping the kit close to his body. "Then you can start by staying next to me and guarding the camp," he said, before leaning his head down and whispering to him. "Besides, Fallpaw will be coming. You can pretend she's a WrathClan cat." he said, giving the kit something to do for play. Whitekit jumped excitedly before hiding plainly in a bush. "Now just keep quiet, and stop wiggling. You don't want to be spotted!" Frostmoon whispered as his son lashed his tail in plain excitement, waiting for Fallpaw. He was sure his apprentice wouldn't mind his kit having fun, after Whitekit was his son.
While he waited for Fallpaw to appear he turned his head toward the sky. The moon was supposed to be black tonight, or so he thought. He would never know, but something about the sky gave off a burning intensity. Maybe it was close to full and he just had his days wrong. That is until his eyes flashed from black to bright sparkles in the sky. He could see! But all he could see were stars, yet only for a second. What could that mean. Maybe just a false vision, or his imagination. He could never tell between actually seeing for omens, or his mind just commanding occasional images to flood his ever dark mind. [621]

A small shape padded through the area softly, the pelt blending in with the night. It was the owner's pride and joy. Many of the cats in her clan found it both beautiful and handy. For what toad or snake would see a black and orange she-cat coming along?Russetpaw's fur was like the sun rising itself. Of course, she wasn't a moonclan cat and was in no way perfect. The white patches of fur on her foot and flank were much unappreciated.
What was Russetpaw doing out at the time of twilight anyways? She could be curled up in bed, dreaming of ripping the fur off of any other clans warrior. She wasn't sadistic in anyway, moonclan no,but she did want to bring pride to her clan for having her around. That was one of the ways to do it. With her size, she was a bit of a joke in her clan.At least, when the joke was whispered among everyone except those who knew Russetpaw and Russetpaw herself. The she-cat had learned to defend herself when another cat insulted her. Maybe that was the reason as to why other cats never tried to approach her.
The memory of her rude awakening replayed in her mind. She had in fact been sleeping only minutes before. She had been awoken with a hard jab in the side. She was preparing to question the apprentice who had no regard for personal space when she came face to face with her mentor. A small smile was taken into account and Russetpaw looked away, slightly embarrassed. Her mentor had found her reaction funny. They sent her on an errand to tell the Twilight Patrol that a nursery queen had given birth.
'Why they need me to tell Frostmoon about a simple kitting is beyond me.It's not like he doesn't know a queen was ready to give birth' she thought irritably. Her paw steps were quiet, even though her mind was filled with unsuppressed annoyance. She wasn't a happy apprentice when she was deprived of her sleep. A few of the cats had a few horrible memories of trying to wake her up.Most of them had to deal with arguments of the meanest kind.
Her nose picked up the faintest scent of a she-cat. "It's Dreadclan scent,no need to go crazy.I wonder who it is." Russetpaw thought aloud. Her eyes looked around quickly, wondering if she could find any traces of the she-cat.Russetpaw had a terrible curiosity I'm afraid. Her mind screamed for her to continue to track Frostmoon, but she ignored that little voice and went off in the direction that the she-cats scent went.

Fallpaw hated her pelt. How the light seemed to make her pelt look like a late autumn sunhigh. She flicked her tail back and forth as the stars shined on her fur. Why couldn't she have a black pelt or dark brown tabby pelt? But no, she had to have a stinking flame and bracken colored pelt. She flattened her ears as a breezed buffeted her. She shook her self and calmed down. Why was she in such a bad mood? She should be happy! Her mentor liked her, she nearly caught a mouse, she wasn't caught on the border...She was one lucky cat...
The apprentice opened her jaws to scent something...anything. And quickly she smelled the raw scent of toad. Well, better than nothing. She lowered her body so her belly barely brushed the floor. Her paws were soundless as she slowly moved forward. She kept her tail low as the smell got stronger. She knew it was in front of her now. Just beside that stump. She raised her head a bit to peek. Yep. A fat, smelly toad. Sitting, making horrid noises. She remembered when she was a kit that an apprentice had brought her a vole. At the time it scared her, she didn't know what it was. But she ate it and savored every bite of it. It had been the best meal she had ever had. But that was a rare treat. Vole was as well as mouse.
Fallpaw waggled her haunches and pounced. She easily caught it and killed it swiftly. As she carried it in her mouth she wrinkled her nose. The taste was bitter and strong, unlike the sweet and juicy taste of vole! She still remembered it...
We always used to have vole.
Fallpaw jumped at the voice and spun around. She fluffed up her fur. For a second she smelled a sweet scent but then it was gone. It was only a few taillengths in front of her, so she followed, claws unsheathed. But it wasn't any cat. It was a vole! It was dead though, she could clearly see the fresh teeth marks. Who had caught it? Well it was on her territory so she picked it up and raced back to camp.
She was too excited over her find to notice whitekit waiting for her. The white tom pounced on her. She shrugged him off and dropped the prey in front of her leader.
"Look! Frostmoon, its a vole! I found it on my hunt! well, i found toad too, so i caught two things. I am more excited for the vole though, they're the best! Do you want it?" She nosed the vole to his paws and waited for his praise.

[bgcolor=gray] Tail curled lightly around paws, fur laying flat and covered deeply by the shadows, Frostmoon watched Russetpaw leave the camp, searching for him and Fallpaw he guessed. But for now he would let the apprentice go out on her own, he knew she needed it. The she-cat was smaller, or so he heard from joking apprentices. Why was this such a bad thing? Why he was blind and no one dare say anything of him. But maybe that was because he was now leader. So maybe such a taunted cat as Russetpaw would have the same fate. That is if the she-cat had what it takes to lead, and maybe she did, but you could never tell these days with apprentices.
Frostmoon sniffed the night air, stale scent of fox wafting to his nose. He was glad the creature was chased off only a few sunhighs ago, he didn't feel like trouble from them at the moment. Still Whitekit was giving him just as much as he fidgeted in the undergrowth, waiting for Fallpaw, and just now she appeared. He flicked his son gently on the ear, signaling for him to pounce. He did so, but only ended up rolling down the other side of her. Whitekit snorted, before trotting up to Frostmoon. "Did you see me, I really got you, huh Fall... What type of prey is that!?" He said in utter surprise, sniffing the vole.
Frostmoon looked at his apprentice. "I see you did get a vole. Well done!" He praised. Frostmoon then glanced down at the curious kit. "Bring it to the fresh-kill pile in a little bit so him and his mother can share it in the morning," he said, before pointing his ears back to the forest, listening to see if Russetpaw was on her way back or not. He couldn't hear her coming this way, but that could change at any point. He just looked to Whitekit "Now get some sleep, little one," he said before facing Fallpaw as if looking at her. He was wondering what her Warrior name could be, seeing he couldn't easily decide without seeing her, though MoonClan had allowed him to see with his rare glimpses of sight. But he guessed he could wait, seeing his apprentice was still new, or newer. She still had a moon of training or so, Frostmoon thought.
"Tomorrow I'm taking you to train. I have a good battle moves for fighting the other Clans," he announced, flicking his tail in boredom. He was itching for a fight at the moment, but he couldn't do that if his apprentice needed more training. "Russetpaw and her mentor will be there too." he said. He wasn't sure how the two got along, but they were denmates, so they shouldn't be total enemies. But what did he know? Since his leadership all he worries about is making sure his Clan is strong. Warriors he left to take care of little conflicts. [511]

Fallpaw nodded and picked up her prey again. She padded to the Freshkill pile and dropped her prey. The shecat curled her tail in delight. Vole! She couldn't believe it! This was wonderful, especially since Frostmoon had praised her for it. She loved praise, it fueled her...Like prey usually did. She padded off into the apprentice's den. She knew Russetfur wasn't there and she was glad she wasn't the one to wake the fiery-tempered apprentice. She had gotten a scratch across her muzzle for that once.
Fallpaw curled into a ball, tucking her paws under and culing her tail around her body and lightly touching her muzzle. She didn't think she would be able to sleep, due to all of the excitement, but soon her eyes grew heavy and closed. She was still and only her slight breathing and twitching of whiskers showed she wasn't dead.

Russetpaw let her nose lead the way. She was quite good at tracking. It was the hunting part that got here at times. She was eager to impress her mentor, what apprentice wasn't?She would make small mistakes like jumping too early,or misjudging her footing. Little things like that, which caused her to lose valuable prey and make her look incapable in her mentors eyes.At least she thought so.Whether or not they did think of her as incompetent, who knows.
Her yellow-green eyes stared at the she-cat blankly. 'At least it's not someone who'll get on my nerves too much' Russetpaw thought a bit more happy. Sure, she and Fallpaw got into an argument once when Fallpaw tried to wake her up. Most cats did. Russetpaw could actually tolerate Fallpaw because she wasn't too bubbly or loud. She was Fallpaw. That in itself was interesting. Russetpaw would never consider them friends though. The little incident where Russetpaw attacked Fallpaw had happened at the beginning of their apprenticeship and Russetpaw didn't really think she was over that. Russetpaw sure wouldn't be. She holds grudges, something her mother finds repulsive.
She looked at the vole with questioning eyes. She had no idea what it was. No one close to her had ever really managed to find something odd like that. From the blood that covered it's body, and the way Fallpaw seemed to savor it's taste,it had to be prey. Russetpaw thought back to when she was younger. One of the elders were describing the types of prey that they would be able to hunt when they were apprentices. It was only a few days before they actually got to try it out. Russetpaw remembers being mesmerized by the description of one certain prey. They called it a vole and said it was very rare to find one in Dreadclan territory. Russetpaw fancied that she'd be the one to find many of them for the clan, but forgot about that small insignificant dream when she did become an apprentice.Just being respected was her new dream.
She finally decided to just ask Fallpaw what it was later. She followed after the she-cat at a slower pace, just simply watching the sky and trying to make sure she didn't step on anything that could alert Fallpaw. Soon Fallpaw slipped into an area that smelled of Frostmoon. Russetpaw stayed a bit aways when she saw that there was no one there. She didn't feel like explaining herself to the other she-cat about why she was following her. Russetpaw just wanted to go back to camp. She couldn't help but smile a bit when Whitekit jumped out. He was a very cute kit,Russetpaw had to admit.
She waited for Fallpaw to leave before coming out of the bushes. "Hello Frostmoon,I have a message for you from camp" Russetpaw explained, pretty sure that he knew she was here. It wouldn't be too hard to find her,she wasn't great at hiding,in fact that was the thing she hated doing the most. Russetpaw, like many in the camp respected Frostmoon quite alot. In fact,Russetpaw always wanted to ask him how he tolerated others when he looked the way he did. That would be extremly rude though, seeing as how she didn't really know him as anything except the leader.

[bgcolor=gray]Flicking his ears in a silent good-bye to his excited apprentice. He hoped she would get sleep soon though, being so keen to impress. It made Frostmoon wish he was an apprentice, when he thought he had the energy to run around the lake from leaf-bare to green-leaf. But those were long gone times, and he was more older, wiser, and intent on doing the best for his Clan. That was why, in fact, he was leader. How else could a cat become to such power without working for it and having the skills? Well, if one were hungry for power he guessed, but cheating your way to the top made one look weak in Frostmoon's eyes, if he could see of course.
His mind delved from the thought, as Frostmoon narrowed his sightless eyes to were he could smell Russetpaw. He knew the apprentice was there earlier, waiting for a good time to approach and deliver useless news. But Frostmoon would welcome the apprentice, and any other, any day. He took pride in the young cats of the Clans, for they were the future and the survival of the Clan. But that did not steal his respect for senior warriors and elders, for they were once, and are, the future, as he is. Still his thoughts could delay from that, as Russetpaw spoke of news from the Clan. He could guess what it was already. "Kits, I know," he murmured half to Russetpaw, and half to himself. He was getting mad that cats were looking down on those with the slightest weakness or difference. So what Russetpaw was smaller, she would grow, as did Frostmoon grow from an "unwanted blind apprentice" to a "must impress now" leader. Hopefully something of equal greatness would happen to Russetpaw. But that would be hidden for now.
"How is your training, young Russetpaw? Good I hope, for WrathClan s stirring up on the border," he said in his chill cold tone, unkind. But he always talked like that, so it was never really anything to take offense. In fact it was lighter in curiosity to hear what the cranky apprentice had to say. He wanted to know and start learning about her early so he would get a good chance of thinking of a Warrior name. And yet again it wouldn't be based on colour, due to blindness. Sure it couldn't stop him from calling her Russetpelt or Russettail, but he wanted something true to match her. But this would come in due time. [427]

Her eyes looked over the small area with interest. Sure she had seen it before, but she never really cared for it. What use would a small area that could probably fit only 6 cats at the most be to her? 'You never know when you'll need something' she chastised herself. It was a lesson her mentor had taught her. How was one cat to know they may need certain berries and such in the future? How would any cat know that they would need to stock up on certain types of prey for the other types would fall ill to a disease. Only those who were close to Moonclan would be able to answer that.
She watched as Fallpaw made her way towards the camp. Her old feelings of longing for sleep seemed to crash down on her now. Ye,she felt oddly hyper as well. She was in the presence of a very accomplished individual and his kit. 'Why is Whitekit out here anyways' she thought with a small lift of the eyebrow. She watched him simply, hoping he'd answer sooner or later. She had no doubt that he spotted her. Even if he couldn't see,she was sure her scent wasn't that well hidden. She wouldn't be surprised if she got back to camp and Fallpaw told her that she was aware of her presences all along.
She watched him with interest. He seemed annoyed that they would make a cat deliver news for no reason. 'At least we're alike in some ways' Russetpaw thought with a small grin. Then again, maybe it was for some other unknown reason. Russetpaw wasn't sure and didn't feel like being nosy for once. She didn't think she'd get too far with Frostmoon as her prey.Yes,she was nosy. Sure she didn't have alot of friends and she snapped at many people, but she did like knowing stuff.
Russetpaw shook her head slightly when she heard Frostmoon speak. She cleared her throat once before answering."It's going great, although I could do without the other apprentice's whining. I'm actually hoping Wrathclan tries to do something. Not too disrupt the clan or give his wounds or anything, but because I want to show that my training is going well" Russetpaw explained, resisting the urge to badmouth some of her fellow apprentices. No matter how much they annoyed her,she wasn't going to do anything to cause them grief with Frostmoon.
